In 1954 David Schmid and Ralph Cubbler left Alloy Metal Wire Co. in Prospect
Park, PA to start a company they called Techalloy. Together they grew to an
organization that comprised five manufacturing locations coast to coast. In
1973 Ralph Cubbler passed away leaving Dave alone to manage the growing company
that proved to be a heavy burden. In December of 1985 Dave divested himself
of Techalloy by donating the company to Carnegie Mellon University, then retired.
However, Dave was not on to sit on the sidelines and in 1988 he, along with
the manufacturing expertise of Tom Hess started a new company called Technical
Development. Originally, this company was dedicated to the manufacture and sale
worldwide of scalping machines (which is a more efficient way, than shaving,
for removing imperfections of surface defects on wire). Gradually Technical
Development returned to the roots of its founder and began manufacturing stainless
and nickel wire to the exact needs of its customers.
Since the year 2000, the same mission has been carried forward by the "new
generation" of owners at Technical Development which is utilizing past
skills, knowledge and historical methods to manufacture spring wire, redraw
wire, heading wire, welding wire, electro-polish (EPQ) wire, and bar unsurpassed
in the industry.
Technical Development is located in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania on seven
acres. We currently have 74,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space.
Our plan going forward is to dedicate ourselves to providing a quality product
on time and to continuously improve!
